We all know that the Dev's / Hackers who find these vulnerabilities in our iPhones, really do, work their asses off to get them released as soon as possible. Donations for this seems to be stirring up a little trouble between others.
Unlike the iPhone Dev-Team, the Chronic Dev-Team had put a 'donation' button on their website and on their software. To me, this is all fair. They work hard to bring you jailbreaks to enable you to make your iPhone better and ask for you to 'donate' if you so wish. i0n1c (German security researcher and IOS hacker Steffan Esser) seems to be arguing with the Chronic Dev-Team over these 'donation's.
i0n1c started by saying "@JailbreakMatrix the only people cashing in on donations are chronic dev."
to which they replied
"@i0n1c coming from the person who would cash in his own grandma if she had a vuln, jeezus you talk some garbage and are two faced"
The next day i0n1c tweeted "The request from @chronicdevteam was:add donation button for us,or you are not allowed to bundle our untether. Not for the money my ASS."
A reply was met by a well known developer of Cydia tweaks, Grant Paul (chpwn). He said "@i0n1c @chronicdevteam This again? Heres the answer: theyre *donations*, not payments. Why do you care if people want to say thanks? " Obviously aimed at i0n1c.
There was a little more chatter going on amongst other people but you get the gist. Some people say 'if we want to donate we'll do so on your website not through your software'. Others are just leaving a tweet on their page giving their words of thanks to the team.
I wouldn't like to see everyone arguing within the community like this. Steffan Esser is a great hacker with great skills. For him not to help any other team / teams ( or vice versa) over something like donations would be silly. There is a very small amount of people developing on vulnerabilities these days, so everyone should help everyone.
What do you think? Should Chronic Dev-team ask for donations? As they say, it does help to buy test phones and travel for hacking conferences that will aid US the end user much better. Without the chronic dev-team......there might not be any more jailbreaks. just a thought.
