Apple Boosts Apple ID Security.

Apple, well known for their software updates, are updating another security area. There isn't a security risk here at all, they're just beefing up the amount of security you have. This time round they've decided to enhance security regarding your Apple ID in IOS and iTunes.

With the increase of sales on the Appstore (now into it's 25th BILLION) comes the increase of hacked accounts. Reports suggesting that a good few of these are Chinese following the download of expensive Chinese apps, on compromised accounts. This is quite possibly down to some having their passwords set far too easy to guess, rather than being actually hacked into.

To counter this problem, Apple have recently starting prompting Apple ID owners, whether it be on IOS or iTunes, to answer 3 questions with their own answers, so that when they download an app of any sort, only THEY will know the answer to all 3 questions. Also, they are asked to input a backup E-Mail address. Once completed, you will recieve an email which reads :

Youve taken the added security step and provided a rescue email address. Now all you need to do is verify that it belongs to you.

The rescue address you have given us is This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Just click the link below to verify, sign in using your Apple ID and password, then follow the prompts.

The rescue email address is dedicated your security and allows Apple to get in touch if any account questions come up, such as the need to reset or change your security questions. As promised, Apple will never send you any announcements or marketing messages to this address.

It seems a bit time consuming and pointless to a lot of users. No doubt some will slate Apple for doing this whilst having to input Apple password AND answer 3 questions, but it's for the best. Some people on the Apple support forums have asked if this was a device breach or phishing scam. It's not.
