iPod Touch Rumors

October 04, 2012

If you've been checking out all of the smartphone hotness that is the iPhone 5, one of the first things you'll notice is that snazzy and incredibly fast custom-designed A6 processor. According to some reports and recent job postings however, it appears the Cupertino company may already have its eyes on the future.

For all of you iPod touch fans, it would appear that the next generation of the iPod Touch will be getting at least 1 BIG change to more closely resemble the upcoming iPhone.

John Gruber from Daring Fireball hinted that the next generation iPod Touch will sport a Retina Display -- Same as the iPhone 4 -- and two cameras in a post about Dell's Streak product -- Gruber also hints that it will be released within the next 'few weeks' which is a very reasonable time frame as Apple always seems to update the iPod lineup before the holiday season.
That's almost twice as much as a good iPod Touch, and if you wait a few weeks to buy the Touch, you'll get one with a Retina Display and dual cameras. If Dell can't make an iPod Touch competitor, who can?

We posted images of what appears to be the new front part of the screen. You can clearly see a hole on the top of the screen appropriate for a front-facing camera, presumably for FaceTime usage.

iPod Touch getting a retina display seems obvious, why wouldn't a next-gen device get a retina display. However, the dual cameras seem more of a stretch but again, why wouldn't it get it? Only time will tell.
Stay tuned!

Well, it's pretty damn clear from the images that the 4th generation iPod Touch will be featuring a FaceTime camera...and why wouldn't it? It would definitely make a great feature to add to it. That, and a regular camera on the back, like the iPhone.

So, if the iPod Touch does, in fact, yet a FaceTime camera on the production model, how would you get in contact with the other person you're trying to teach? Easy, you pair FaceTime with your email address.

The folks over at MacRumors received some interesting pictures, even a video, of what appears to be the next generation iPod Touch. The images suggest there will be a camera, no word on the megapixels. in the center of the Touch.
Third generation iPod Touch

The same source that submit these images to macrumors also submitted teardown images of the rumored next-gen iPod Touch to the on-air blog of Covino & Rich hosts of the Maxim Radio talk radio show on Sirius and XM satellite radio. The blog post includes additional information from the source regarding the origins of the device.
-to show it's real. If you look at the board, it states Apple 2009 very clear. The 2nd gen AKA iPod touch out now, has 2008 on it. They haven't revised the 2008 touch. I will compare them in pic in a sec. -BTW, these phones NEVER leave Apple and this one left but it was a durability test phone, so that's why the screen is all gridded off and cracked. -The side by side picture is the inside of the current gen vs the 3rd gen (one coming out in September). -I acquired this from a guy that I buy parts phones and iPods from. I believe he's a recycler in ***********, so what most likely happened is that Apple threw this away and he some how got it and sold it for parts.

The post also included additional images of the device and also internal pictures of the device. The internal shots revealed a red motherboard in contrast from the usual black circuit board, however, the use of red or alternate colours for the circuit boards is common in prototypes.
