Baseband Downgrade Tutorial

Yesterday I gave the news of redsn0w being able to downgrade the iPad baseband on Older 3G[S] models and iPhone 3G. Today I bring you a tutorial: This will be for Windows but Mac is exactly the same.

A reminder from musclenerd. If you have the newer 3G[S] then there is a good chance that this downgrade will NOT work! Be warned.

You'll need!! redsn0w Windows  /  Mac and the .ipsw of the current firmware your phone is on (google that)

Step 1) After extracting redsn0w from the .zip file, double click on redsn0w.exe to run the program. (may have to be run in administrator mode)

Step 2) Click on the 'extras' button and select 'select ipsw' from the menu that follows.

Step 3) Navigate to your downloaded .ipsw, click on it and press the 'open' button.

Step 4) Click 'ok' to confirm your selection in redsn0w (Should be a popup) followed by a screen asking if it is the newer 3G[S]. (by now you should know. If not the use iDetector or f0recast (i can't remember which) from ih8snow.

Step 5) Press the 'Back' button to get back to the main menu and then click the 'Jailbreak' button.

Step 6) redsn0w should now be 'preparing jailbreak'. Once that has done, you should see a list of options to choose from. Choose 'Downgrade from iPad baseband'. If you have Cydia installed already on your device, then uncheck the 'Install Cydia' box. Cautiosly continue to click the 'next' button, wiping the sweat from the top of your brow..........

Step 7) Follow the onscreen instructions to get the device into DFU mode. After done successfully, it should automatically start exploiting with Limera1n and then reboot. LEAVE THE DEVICE ALONE! DO NOT TOUCH IT OR YOU WILL BREAK IT, probably.

Step 8) The phone should reboot once again and redsn0w will start to upload the Ramdisk. Afterwards, redsn0w will say 'done!' the rest of the jailbreak will take place on your device. DO NOT YET TOUCH THE PHONE!

Step 9) You should soon see the 'Pwnapple' logo onscreen and some text scrolling underneath, then finally it will say 'Flashing Baseband'. This process can take anywhere from 3 - 10 minutes so I ask you again to remain patient and not unplug your device or anything during this process or there is a high risk of bas stuff happening.

Step 10) Once the ramdisk has been uploaded and it's finished flashing and whatnot, the phone will reboot for a final time. Now you can change your sweat soaked t-shirt to that dashhacks one you bought (or won) as you should now be on the 05.13.04 Baseband.

To unlock just go into cydia and install ultrasn0w (some of you may need to re-install ultrasn0w or mobile substrate to fix crashes or the 'no signal' error) that's according to the Dev-Team anyway.Others report having toupgrade with Sn0wBreeze (if using windows) and then using redsn0w.
