Apple has made a smart move by registering a new patent, this is a great idea to stop all the lawsuits surrounding patent infringement, but even more of a great idea because of what the patent is for...
Apple has registered a new patent that suggests the release of a new official app that would make it possible for iPhone and iPad users to use their device as a gaming controller. The idea of the app is to open a graphical interface that represents a PlayStation or Xbox controller, you would then be able to play your games remotely from your iPhone or iPad just like you would with your regular controller.
How would it work? Well the device would remotely be able to connect to many entertainment devices which themselves will be unique, however the games controller usage is slightly different. The Apple device wouldnt directly connect to the console and register as a separate controller; for example it would instead take control of the sixaxis itself and calibrate the iPhone to replicate the PS3 controller.
It is a brilliant and interesting idea but like many apps, I dont understand how useful it would actually be.
