While smartphones have been for the most part impervious to any sort of calculated technological attack, it seems as though that calm era has finally come to an end. Thanks to a mobile variant of the FinFisher Spyware, phone users of all types and varieties have something to be worried about when it comes to this newly emerging virus. According to studies on the code conducted by Citizen Lab of the Toronto Munk School of Global Affairs, the actions that this very small file are capable of can lead to some very troubling ramifications. For example, FinFisher can access the GPS to find your location, monitor emails and text messages, and even monitor phone calls through the microphone.
If that's not enough to send chills down your spine I don't know what is. The study states that the code is injected when users inadvertently open infected emails, and is then spread to compromise all of these systems in the OS by downloading and operating in the background. Withe regards to who is affected, the blanket is a wide one that includes iOS, Android, Symbian, Windows Phone and BlackBerry.
While no specific removal instructions have been posted at this time, DashHacks urges all smartphone users to be extremely careful about the emails they open. If any updates on this story emerge, we will be the first to let you know.
