Google Maps Out on iOS, Let the Map Battles Begin

You might have already heard this by now considering most major tech blogs were posting like crazy about this all weekend, but we want to make sure that our DashHacks readers get the respect they deserve too. When Apple released its own Maps app with iOS, let's just say that most of us were probably a little bit less than pleased. With navigation issues and just plain strange street designs, it was clear that the company had released something that in reality was far from finished. The facts are, they wanted to prove that they no longer needed Google services to make their OS function, but maybe they said that just a little too soon.

In light of all the consumer outcry for a better solution, Google Maps has finally be released and returned to iOS. What we see now is a slick interface very much modeled after Apple Maps with a taste of that Google minimalistic design. In general, you can expect more or less all the features that should have been complete in Apple Maps to work well here. As you drive, you'll be able to view correct information about landmarks that doesn't take away from the map view and can easily be shared with your friends. In addition, the turn by turn feature remains in tact by letting you pick several routes to get to where you need to be. Finally, the much raged over Street View has also returned, and while it may not be as pretty as Apple's own 3D option it still remains as functional as ever.

Suffice to say, if you missed Google Maps, you should probably go get it in the App Store now!
