Data Overage Bug Found in iOS 6

Submitted by Christopher Groux; November 15, 2012

While Apple was initially proud of the launch of iOS 6, it certainly has turned into quite the firmware nightmare for the kind of company that generally prides themselves on a kind of perfection. Most obviously, users have written pages upon pages of web complaints about mistakes made by Apple Maps, but  to be quite honest, recent  findings show that that just might be the very least of your problems. As reported by Redmond Pie, many on cellular connections have found a bug that accidentally downloads your podcasts and audio streams multiple times without your knowledge. What does this do? Increase your data costs!

Essentially what has been happening is because of interruptions in your connection, the software is unable to realize that it has already downloaded certain portions of your stream. So as certain interferences keep happening, the download continues in a cyclical motion with you being none the wiser. Users of any kind of cellular solution know that every kilobyte costs them money, so this can end up tacking on some valuable cash to your bill. How much you ask? Some say that this will cause your data output to triple what it had been previous to the update.

If you're looking to fix the problem, updating to iOS 6.0.1 seems to rectify the issue for most, although many still say it is happening to them regardless. Alternately, you may want to unsubscribe to any podcasts from inside the official app, and disable your iTunes Match services as well. While we have not heard any official word yet, we hope that one will be coming soon!

Anyone else experiencing something like this? My hope is that they will offer a full fix for this soon, or at the very least a statement.

I have been checking my usage and have not, but I am on t-mobile, I am also restricted to edge network until they do the tower upgrade, wonder if that has anything to do with it?
