All of us perusing these DashHacks articles are probably familiar with how tracking cookies work on the web. Basically what happens is, when you go to a website, an advertiser pops a little file into your cache that allows them to tailor their ads to you based on certain elements such as your browsing history. While these exact same cookies probably get downloaded into our mobile browsers all the time, you might be interested to know that iOS 6 takes additional measures to follow your activity through a method called Identifier for Advertisers (IFA) that assigns each device a unique and anonymous ID number to track not only your web traffic but possibly even location as well.
Obviously, nobody wants to have their privacy secretly violated, so you'll be glad to know that Apple has included a simple (yet somewhat hidden) way to disable this option whether you have a jailbreak or not. To make this happen, all you need to do is head on ever into Settings/General/About/Advertising and turn the slider to the on position. Pretty sneaky of them to toss that little stipulation into the about section if you ask me, but I'm sure they're getting a pretty penny to have that large Apple user base all under the same IFA umbrella. What do you guys think? Has the evils of Apple extended with this IFA thing, or am I just making a fuss out of nothing?
