Who needs iTunes? We've got redsn0w!

Restoring your iDevice to a CFW has always been a pain in the ass. Errors left and right, especially for those just coming into the scene with very little knowledge. Although developers try to simplify the process as much as they can, there's always one awkward bit. But while everyone waits patiently for the ios5.1 untether updates, the iphone dev-team have been doing some updates of their own.

redsn0w was updated earlier to version 0.9.10b7. The biggest feature of this update was for those with iPhone 4s and iPad 2, so you can now get an untethered jailbreak. Here's the official statement from their blog:

"Version 0.9.10b7 of redsn0w adds a collection of useful features:  It finally implements the corona-A5 jailbreak for iPhone4S and iPad2 devices still at 5.0.1.  It can also re-install that jailbreak for those who accidentally uninstalled the untether.  When stitching an IPSW, it can now grab your blobs directly from Cydia.   It now shows a lot more info about your device (for instance, whether your iPhone3G has the vulnerable baseband boot loader, or whether your iPhone3GS has the old exploitable bootrom."

Extra info about your device would come in real handy. Knowing whether or not you had the old bootrom 3G[S] was a challenge at first. Or worse the 3G baseband so you can useFuzzyband to downgrade the baseband to an unlockable one.

Another feature they teased about was the ability to restore your iPhone or whatever using redsn0w rather than itunes! They haven't given much away in terms of the next release of redsn0w or it's abilities, such as:

  :Do you still NEED shsh's to restore to a CFW even using redsn0w? (I'm supposing not as you're not connecting to Apple servers)

  :Usually when restoring a CFW you get error 16xx. You then need to use iREB or another tool to bypass this errors. Will this be done automatically after the restore? Will it detect the errors and do it for you
