Device Longevity

In the case of stock iOS, Apple does at least a half decent job of keeping older hardware in the loop as long as they feel the device is still able to perform well enough on the architecture. This may  indeed require a few features to be stripped every now and again for the more aged options but they at least try to make it work. In fact, the latest iOS works on something as old as the iPhone 3GS. That's pretty impressive if you ask me. However, once iOS 7 comes out, I anticipate older devices such as the 4G Touch and 3GS to be wiped off the table. What happens after that is your apps will slowly be unable to update because your firmware is too out of date, and you'll be stuck with what you have.

iPhone 3GS

With a jailbreak, that's not true in the least. Sure a lot of tweaks do carry their iOS requirements with them, but they are not quite as stringent as anything produced over at Apple. This means that even when your iPhone, tablet, or MP3 player is outdated you'll still be able to get a ton of new stuff from hacks. Even if what you want doesn't work on your system, there are simply so many options out there on the Cydia hacked app market that it's a little bit hard to get bored. When Apple says your device is done, a solid hack can surely keep it going.

So we've seen the major benefits and faults. Now you might be asking "how easy is all of this to do." I'll tell you that if you click on to the next page.

I have an older device, but I sill find my iPod crashes more with Evasi0n than my 2G did with RedSn0w. Everybody else enjoying it?

Lol there are decent alternatives if that's what you want. As I writer here I'm not sure I can point you there specifically, but Google can certainly give you options. ;-)
