SwipeBack Tweak Adds Swipe Gestures to iOS

Submitted by Christopher Groux; November 14, 2012

The way iOS has historically been designed, a lot has been left to the developer in terms of how they want their users navigating their app. Unlike Android which has a designated back button automatically installed within all of their software, what you get with Apple is going to depend quite a bit on how the app itself is coded. While plenty of developers are starting to slowly introduce more and more swipe gestures to improve navigation, there are always going to be those few that seem to lag behind the times. With this little tweak, you can save that aged architecture by integrating swipe gestures of your own.

Quite possibly what makes SwipeBack so attractive is how simple it is to both use and install. All you need to do is search for the name in Cydia from the BigBoss repo, download  it, and you'll be good to go. Unlike a lot of jailbreak modifications, here there are no special settings to mess around with. True to the Apple way of thinking, for once this little add-on "just works." Once installed you should be able to swipe back and forth in any and all apps to move through all of the different various menus that each one contains. It might take a little getting used to, but for those looking for a new and intuitive way to move around this is one surefire way to do it. The best part is, as far as the developer says there are no distinct firmware requirements so apparently anyone on iOS can join in on the party.

Swipe gestures won't be for everyone, but I can't say it isn't worth giving a shot.

Are swipe gestures something you would look forward to, or are you pretty satisfied with just tapping a back button all the time?
