Mac viruses only come around every once and a while, so when they do they're always going to be a pretty big news story. It has been detected that on the Gyalwarinpoche.com website dedicated to the Dalai Lama there is a new malware dubbed Dockster that all users of Apple computers should at the very least be made aware of. While as of writing this does indeed seem to be one small case effecting a single website, oftentimes the code is then borrowed by others to place in other locations. This means that it could spread quite quickly in the coming days.
With that said, you're probably all curious to know how Dockster works. While it certainly seems to be making a stir today, I can actually assure you that the methodology is actually nothing new. By using a vulnerability found in Java all the way back in 2011, a backdoor can be installed on your machine that allows other computers to track your keystrokes. This includes any passwords or even credit card numbers that you may type in over the course of a single day. Essentially, this is just an alternate build of the Flashback malware that was squashed not too long ago, so if you have an up to date system then chances are you are probably already protected. If you can, I highly suggest getting all of your updates in order now before you start your next big surf session.
