Apple Blocked The Russian's IP Address. The Game Is Still Not Over.

We reported a couple of days ago about the Russian hacker who found a way to get in-app purchases for free. Apple managed to block the IP address of his original servers, so he has another trick up his sleeve.

The Hacker who goes by the name of Alexey V. Borodin was for a short time stopped in his tracks by Apple. They managed to start issuing takedown notices and blocking the IP address of any hosting companies. Paypal also had a part in this drama by blocking the paypal address used to gain donations for the 'project'.

Borodin managed to free himself from Apple's grasp by moving his servers to an 'off-shore' country, in an attempt to evade Apple's legal requests (Sounds a bit like 'the pirate bay' guys).

His methods have also changed. His enhanced protocol has it's own authentication and transaction process so that it can bypass iTunes altogether. Previously, being signed into iTunes meant that he could view your login username AND password with no encryption whatsoever. You just had to trust him not to toy with your account.

An Apple spokesperson said : "The security of the App Store is incredibly important to us and the developer community. We take reports of fraudulent activity very seriously and we are investigating." They do not yet have a permanent fix for this hack, and have not given any additional details.
