Upgraded To 5.1.1? Do You Have Any Downgrade Options?

Are you one of the silly Billys that upgraded your iPhone or iPad to IOS 5.1.1? Well the latest redsn0w upgrade might just be your knight in shining armour!

We recently reported that an upcoming redsn0w upgrade will be able to downgrade your device from IOS 5.1.1 / 5.1 down to IOS 5.0.1 for an untether jailbreak. Well that time is upon us......

This latest release by the Dev-Team will allow those of you with an iPhone 4s, iPad 2, and possibly iPad 3 although very little testing has been done on it (they don't have one to test with) to downgrade to a jailbreakable firmware 5.0.1. iPhone 4 and iPad users have always been able to do this because of geohot's Limera1n exploit. This will allow an untethered jailbreak because of BigBoss' corona.

The dev-Team does give us some warning about it though. If you require an unofficial unlock then stay away from this method of downgrading because it upgrades your firmware before downgrading, therefore upgrading your baseband. For those of you that used the SAM unlock exploit, this should not affect you, so proceed if you so wish.

Another thing they mention is that this release uses a boatload of new code and therefore may be buggy. It offers no benifit to those already jailbroken, so do not run over the top of your previos jailbreak. If you just want to jailbreak then use the previous and more stable version of redsn0w. Only use this if you wish to downgrade.

Windows users are recommended to run this new redsn0w in administrator mode. I've tried this new redsn0w myself on my iPad 2 and can say that it works perfectly. So other iPad 2 downgraders should have no need to worry :D
