redsn0w 0.9.14b1 Now Downgrades Your Baseband!

Submitted by Kevmau5; June 18, 2012

Have you got a locked 3g or 3G[S]? Perhaps you upgraded to the iPad baseband and have had trouble ever since? redsn0w is now the swiss army knife of jailbreak tools.

I know I'm a day late with this, but yesterday Musclenerd and the rest of the iPhone Dev-Team released an update to redsn0w (version 0.9.24b1) wihich now gives it the ability to downgrade your baseband to whatever one you wish. This is for 3G and 3G[S] models only. The recommended baseband is 05.13.04.

The reason for the downgrade is, first, to enable those with the iPad baseband to regain functionality of their GPS. The second reason is to avoid having to use SAM and SAMPrefs to activate the phone and allow you to start using stock IPSW's again (if you were on the iPad baseband and had to use CFW)

You can download redsn0w from here : http://blog.iphone-dev.org/

Before using this version, have a read through what musclenerd has to say about it first. Here is one of the warnings :

"For those who are wondering if you can update your 3G or 3GS to 06.15 solely for the purposes of downgrading to 05.13.04, the answer is yes for 3G owners, and maybe for 3GS owners.  The iPad baseband is not compatible with 3GS units manufactured week 34 of 2011 or later.  If you have an iPhone3GS and if digits 3-5 of its Serial Number are 134 or later (xx134…), then you should NOT try to install the 06.15 baseband on your 3GS!  It will brick your radio, preventing both the downgrade from working and normal iPhone software from using it as a phone!  Be warned!"

A tutorial very soon will be available in the smartphone tutorials section of the forum.

Will you be downgrading? If you do then please leave feedback below. Others may benifit.

It didn't work for me, unless I did it wrong. Update: I tried it again, it does not give me the option to downgrade to any baseband, it auto picks one for me. Update 2: Somehow restoring it didn't work, tried the NO-BB option and put it into Pwned DFU mode, after restoring it somehow won't activate? Help?

Update 3: http://www.eekedu.net/itunes.png What happened? And http://www.eekedu.net/iphone.jpg The heck?

Worked just fine for me. 3GS on 5.1.1, new bootrom, jailbroken with absinthe. Updated to iPad baseband 6.15 with latest snowbreeze. The clicked jailbreak in redsnow, checked downgrade baseband, waited some mins. UNLOCKED!

Well Gillbot, it would seem that using SnowBreeze does the trick first time in most cases. I'll look into it more whn I get home.

Well I did get it back to working again, I don't know if it is still unlocked. It still says 6.15.00 for the baseband, but I think the GPS is working now

I notice you say you have the 3GS. Is it the newer version. (after week 34)? If it is, then there is a chance that it will not work.

It's before Week 34, so I should be able to do this

I have BB 5.15.04. Do I understand correctly that it IS necessary to upgrade to the iPad BB to be able to downgrade to 5.13.04?

Thanks.
