Great News For Those With The iPad Baseband!

Submitted by Kevmau5; June 11, 2012

Last year, the Dev-team announced that those with an iPhone 3g / 3G[S] could upgrade their baseband to the iPad one (06.15.00) but with a few side effects: GPS bugs (some cases not working at all) and you would be stuck with that forever. Well it seems that things have changed since that day

Musclenerd, without letting slip of this at any time, has been hard at work looking for a way, so you CAN downgrade from this godawful baseband. So just to give you guys a treat he tweeted about what he's been up to:

"Made great progress yesterday on downgrade from BB 06.15 (for 3G/3GS owners who got officially unlocked). All the pieces are there :)"

A little later he gave away a little more about what it is that will actually happen :

"Yep! This lets you downgrade 3G/3GS from 06.15.00 to any prior BB (05.13.04 would be good pick: ultrasn0w + GPS both)" and then a little later again

"yep any 3G/3GS above 05.13.04 can be temporarily updated to 06.15 BB for the purpose of downgrading to 05.13.04"

What seems to be going on here is that if you are on 06.15.00 you can just downgrade to the 05.13.04 unlockable one. Whereas if you are on, say 05.14, then you MUST upgrade to 06.15.00 THEN downgrade. This might have some people a little worried.

I highly doubt that Musclenerd was working on this alone. I'm almost certain we will see planetbeing's name pop up in the credits for this.

And I know from being in the forums that many of you look forward to being able to downgrade. I want to know if this will be implemented in redsn0w again or will it be a standalone tool? If you are looking forward to this then leave a comment below or join us in the forums.

I have been stuck on 4.3.1(8g4) BB 5.16.02 for over a year. I did not want to be stuck with the Ipad BB so I waited. sounds like a winner.

Get your shit right, 6.15.00 kills satellite GPS, which makes it useless. Fuck.

No, it made it buggy along with the ebooks. There was a fix for that later though.

From the dev teams page : Unlockers have been reporting mixed results about GPS functionality at 06.15.00.  Until we can track down what differentiates those who retain GPS vs. those who lose it, be conservative and assume you’ll lose GPS at 06.15.00

So please understand what you're talking about before being rude.

You're clearly a moron who doesn't understand what the iPad baseband does. Let me post what I posted on my Facebook group as to why this happens:

If the iPad 1G baseband 06.15.00 is installed on iPhone 3G or 3GS it will result in loss of (satellite) GPS functionality. The reason behind this is the iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, and iPad 1G using the X-Gold 608 for GSM/UMTS communications, but different GPS chips (BCM4750 in the iPad, and Infineon PMB2525 in the iPhone 3G and 3GS). So the iPad baseband is presumably missing drivers for the Infineon PMB2525. As baseband is totally separated from rest of the iPhone logic (they only communicate over a serial link), there is no alternative way to address the unused GPS chip. Meanwhile, all hopes have been buried of a downgrade option for iPad baseband.

So again, people need to get their shit straight before babbling garbage out like you 'may' lose functionality. If they actually looked at how it worked instead of jumping the gun, we wouldn't be in this mess in the first place. The only way GPS works is if you're connected to a WiFi network.

Yes I'm clearly a moron, giving the news of what musclenerd said! You know, the guy who actually made that ipad baseband on iphone possible. The he said HE had a way of downgrading. And even today he's tweeting about the release date for this downgrade method. So i don't know mr anonymous. Perhaps you ARE musclenerd and are just playing a big 'ol trick on me. Tsk....you! anyone else got Gripes with the information posted. Remembering that the information IS coming from the mouths of the people who are making and releasing.
