This would make sense for Apple to do this as a cost saving measure. 3G connectivity is very costly. Not only for the money that you have to pay to get your data usage, but for the price of the chip inside it as well, which will only increase it's value. This report originated at The Guardian which say's that Apple WILL NOT be offerning a 3G version of the iPad mini. This comes to the dismay of many who were hoping for a smaller tablet for on the move work or leisure.
The Guardian also reported that Apple are planning on releasing a second iPad 3 which will include the same baseband chip as that of the iPhone 5 which will give the much faster 4G connectivity AND the A6 chip that is much faster than it's predecessor. Also highly expected to be seen in this new / updated iPad is the lightning connector which Apple are said to be inplementing into all future mobile devices.
All this remains to be seen however and for now...is all rumours. All will be revealed at Apples upcoming conference toward the end of October.
