Early iPad Mini Reviews Are in the Positive

Submitted by Christopher Groux; November 01, 2012

The launch of the iPad Mini is one that any follower of the industry has known for quite some time. Google and Asus' Nexus 7 have been hogging the limelight for the 7-inch market, so it seems appropriate that Apple would eventually want a little piece of that pie. However, when the device was launched last week, it was leveled with quite a bit of criticism for both its high price point and lack of a retina display. At a base price of $330 Google certainly knew what it was doing by pricing its most expensive Nexus 7 at $299, but is that really enough  to steer the average customer away.

If the reviews coming in now are any indication, the press answer seems to be an overwhelming no. TheLoop in particular found that despite all the various sizes of similar device's the iPad Mini fit remarkably well into the scheme of things, sometimes even besting the iPhone as the device of choice for casual quick browsing. WSJ seconded these sentiments by calling the iPad Mini the perfect size for what it does, and a remarkable feat for putting the amazing iPad experience in a smaller size. In general, the only gripe that does seem to come up regularly is the lack of a retina display, but for most consumers it seems that won't be an issue. The screen has supposedly improved slightly over what the iPad 2 offered, which many believe to be enough for a companion sized tablet. Are you excited about these reviews, or are you more hardcore into seeing what the Android universe will bring you?
