DMCA Update Includes Big News for iPhone and iPad Jailbreakers

With the progress of time, it's pretty obvious that different communities and scenes develop that begin to weild an increased amount of power over their technological devices. That's why companies continue to look for ways to provide better and broader ways to protect the investments they work so hard to make. While upon last revision hackers everywhere cheered for the fact that jailbreaks were now legal, this year we have taken a small but significant step back. When it comes to Apple's iPhone, unlocking has now been ruled as legal only on phones unlocked prior to January 2013, which means more or less from here on out that operation will be on the wrong side of the legal tracks.

Second to this we have the case of DVD rips and iPad jailbreaks. If you're the type of person that likes to rip and convert your own mobile copies of movies, just know that you are now engaging in illegal activity. However, that isn't even the biggest shock to be had. It has also been ruled that any jailbreak to an iPad is now considered a violation of copyright law. Essentially because the definition of "tablet" is so loose at this time, lawmakers have decided that they can't allow this activity on the iPad simply because some may consider other devices (like handheld gaming consoles) tablets as well in the near future. Essentially, it's a way to prevent future problems that could very easily crop up before the next revision.
