How To Make iOS 4 Faster On iPhone 3G

Submitted by Dan; July 31, 2010

Yup, this is happening to almost everyone who took a leap of faith and upgraded their shiny iPhone 3G to Apple's latest and greatest, iOS4 (Previously iPhone OS). Well, many if not everyone is experiencing extreme pain and slowness on the performance of their device.
Here's a video comparing an iPhone 3G running iOS4 and an iPhone 3G running iPhone OS 3.1.3 side-by-side.

The difference couldn't be more clear.
iPhone Dev Team member, Comex, tweeted a link to ModMyI's forums, where a user posted the following:
iPhone 3G apparently has trouble keeping up with indexing, ever since 3.x. Two days ago, I turned off Spotlight search (Settings-General-Home Button-Spotlight search-switch off all you don't use) because I rarely, if ever, used it. Up to this day, my poor old 3G with iOS is way snappier than it was before, and I wouldn't hesitate to say it's as snappy as with 3.1.3.
To disable Spotlight Searching:
  • Launch Settings app
  • Go to General
  • Go to Spotlight Search
  • Deselect indexing for all or as many items as possible
  • Enjoy faster iOS4 on iPhone 3G!

I can't vouch for it and say it does in fact work, but it can't hurt for you to try it out.
Please, let us know in the comments if this worked or didn't work for you!
