AppleTV Jailbreak

The new Evasi0n jailbreak for iOS 6 is pretty darn awesome, but you may have noticed that the Weather app does not function when utilizing this new hack. An official fix is on the way soon, but here's a way to remedy the problem now!

Hackers have been waiting to get their hands on the 6.1 jailbreak for iOS, but the good news is you shouldn't have to wait long. A release for Evasi0n seems to be set for 12PM Eastern Standard Time today!

I don't know many people that have or use the ATV Seas0nPass or Firecore Flash (black) software. There must be enough of you out there because these guys keep throwing the updates out. Here's another Flash (black) update:

iPhone Dev Team have released updated versions of their jailbreak tools Redsn0w 0.9.6rc16 and PwnageTool 4.3.3.1 to support the recently released iOS 4.3.3 firmware version.

Apple released iOS 4.3.3 on Wednesday, and once again the untethered jailbreak exploit that @i0n1c created for 4.3.1 still works. That makes it an unprecedented three firmwares where the same userland exploit works. Were not exactly sure why Apple hasnt fixed the hole yet, but were not complaining!

It appears Geenpois0n RC5 will be bringing an untethered jailbreak which will work on all current hardware. Apple has closed the loophole hackers have been using up until iOS 4.3. Now theres absolutely no point in waiting for the new update to be released. Pod2g confirmed that GreenPois0n will go ahead as-is and a attempt to add 4.3 support to be made later.

The good point is that because of this (and the fact that Apple fixed the kernel exploit in 4.3), we're all working back on releasing gp.

This is great, because many of you (me included) have been desperately waiting on an untethered jailbreak for our precious devices. Equally great, this should be released not too far from now, so stay tuned!

iPhone Dev Team have released an updated version of their jailbreak tool, Redsn0w, which incorporates the limera1n exploit.

It looks like geohots recent limera1n exploit for iPhone3GS/iPhone4/iPad/ipt3g/ipt4g/atv2g will be very beneficial to jailbreakers and unlockers for the next few months (at least). geohots limera1n program and the alternative greenpois1on program both use his same exploit (although greenpois0n refuses to tell you that, FWIW), and hopefully SHAtter can be saved for some later device.

New features of Redsn0w:

• custom bootlogos for iPhone3G/iPhone3GS/iPod2G users (with qualifying bootroms)
• an option that implements the DFU button in PwnageTool. This button (which you can use from Windows) lets you prepare your device for a custom DFU. Even if youre purely a Windows user, you can get a trusted friend to run PwnageTool over your IPSW to create a custom IPSW. You can now install that custom IPSW on your own Windows box, after you run this redsn0w version.

For Windows users who have run redsn0w and chosen Just enter pwned DFU mode right now, your device is now completely vulnerable. Running iTunes and selecting a custom IPSW from PwnageTool (choose it by pressing Shift+Restore)….youve now convinced your device and iTunes to restore to a custom firmware. Congratulations! If you are timid about software and running these programs…please just wait! Dont jeopardize your carrier unlock for a firmware upgrade. Wait for even easier methods than this latest redsn0w release.

This is basically the same PwnageTool version released a few days ago, except many people were experiencing errors and bugs, so the iPhone Dev Team ironed them out and released PwnageTool v4.1.2
From the iPhone Dev Team blog:

[Update: Version 4.1.2 should fix any issues that OS X 10.5.x users were seeing. You only need to run this version if youre at OS X 10.5.x and were seeing Cydia errors] ULTRASN0W UNLOCKERS BEWARE!! ULTRASN0W UNLOCKERS BEWARE!! The biggest mistake you can make (and it is a big one!) is lettings iTunes restore to the official IPSW — youll lose the unlock and wont be able to go back! You must use Option-Restore, not just the Restore button by itself. Then navigate to your custom IPSW — not to the stock one! If you accidentally started a restore to the official IPSW, unplug your iPhone immediately before the restore gets to the Updating Firmware step!

PwnageTool supports the following devices:

• AppleTV 2G
• iPad (firmware 3.2.2)
• iPod touch 4G
• iPod touch 3G
• iPhone4
• iPhone 3GS

AppleTV users:

Right now, about all you can do is command-line stuff via ssh. You also have afc2 available, so you can use tools like ifunbox to move files around. These are the *very* early days of AppleTV 2G jailbreaking, so itll take some time for JB app developers to come up with methods to use your AppleTV 2G from the remote, versus the command line. PS: Your ssh password is alpine…please change it when you can :)

Chronic Dev Team has released their jailbreak tool named Greenpois0n. Greenpois0n was suppose to have released October 10th but was delayed to implement GeoHot's Limera1n exploit instead of revealing SHAtter and burn it up. Instead of using up both bootrom exploits, they decided to just use one of them up and keep the other (SHAtter) secret.
Greenpois0n only works on iOS 4.1, so if you have an iPhone 4 on a lower firmware, use TinyUmbrella to preserve your baseband if you want to unlock!

Initially, this will be a Windows-only release. This is due to some technical complications that we soon hope to correct. We apologize for any inconvenience. Thanks to geohot for the bootrom USB exploit. We have opted to use that instead of SHAtter for the sake of exploit presevation. This release of greenpois0n supports:

• iPhone 4
• iPhone 3G S
• iPod touch (4th Generation)
• iPod touch (3rd Generation)
• iPad

Soon there will be another release, adding things like support for:

• Apple TV (2nd Generation)
• iPod touch (2nd Generation)

As stated above, this is Windows-only for now. A Mac OS X version will be released soon -- No ETA released.

Yes, yes, you heard -- rather, read -- correctly. limera1n is an untethered jailbreak, not only for your beloved iPhone 4, but also for iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 3G, iPad, iPod Touch 4G, and technically that AppleTV you have connected to your HDTV, however, there are no apps for it yet. Limera1n has been in the making for 6 months and unfortunately, it's not a one-click app. You will need to follow instructions carefully, so this is not for the faint of heart.

• uninstall in limera1n app doesn't work, you can just delete the blackra1n.app directory, i need regression testing

MuscleNerd alerted iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 ultrasn0w unlockers to stay away from limera1n and wait for PwnageTool, else you will lose your unlock.
