Is 3D in the Future for Apple?

Submitted by Kevmau5; April 17, 2012

A job listing on Apple's website indicates that Apple is indeed (or at least looking to) going down the same path as other major companies. With Apple hiring thousands of workers in preparation for the next iphone release in October (seems more likely), their latest job offering seems pretty interesting.

The job is listed as an IOS Software Engineer, and the requirements are the following:  Multi-view stereo and 3D reconstruction, Inpainting of occluded geometry and texture data, SLAM, Mesh texturing techniques, Large scale bundle adjustment, Cameras and surfaces in a 3D environment.

So things look promising from Apple. Will we see 3D implemented into future iDevices? A 3D enabled camera? Or perhaps it will be for a future Apple TV / iTV? Would YOU want to see 3D on your iPhone / iPad? I know I wouldn't. But less of me, lets hear your thoughts on Apple's 3D future in the comments below or chat about it in the forums

Apple has always had a way of innovating things, but who knows how bad they'll f*ck up without Steve Jobs. They'll probably go down the same road as other companies. Implementing features that just aren't ready to be even remotely useful. 3D Enviorments need to be redesigned for anyone to actually want to use them. Good example: Siri. Voice Control seems like it'll never be practical. Siri was rather... Cool. Better than any other voice control software, but no one really wants to use it on a daily basis. I think Apple can pull it off, but if they don't do it right it's gonna be a death sentence... Just the one we've all been waiting to see.
