Apple Prodding Into Ad-Radio?

Submitted by Christopher Groux; October 29, 2012

Sure commercial radio may be slowly but surely facing an inevitable death at the hand of iPods and computers, but those of us really into the tech industry know that music broadcasting isn't exactly dead. With the introduction of Pandora nearly a decade ago came a new way for us to consume music on the web that would be closely tied to our interests. This reign actually went mostly unopposed for quite sometime until the European software giant known as Spotify decided to break into the scene. Both of these services run ravenous with ads, and are sanctioned by most major record companies so you know they're starting to rake in some serious dough. That of course is where Apple comes in.

According to Bloomberg, Warner Music Group, Sony Corp. and various other labels have all paid their own unique visits to the Apple campus in the hopes of discussing a relationship to disseminate some ad supported radio. With a newly revamped version of iTunes on the horizon, this would certainly be a great time to test the waters. Not to mention Apple does have that little service known as iAd which hasn't had the best track record to date, but could work out quite nicely when it is integrated with Apple's media player. Recent sales numbers have shown a decline in iTunes numbers, so what could be more attractive and seamless than hearing a song on iTunes Radio, and then purchasing it with the click of a button? Not a bad guess to say that this rumor could very well be part of Apple's gameplan.
