 Category 1: Hardware

The winner for this category is pretty much a no brainier, but I figured we should get the obvious stuff out of the way before we get into any serious debate. As far as it stands right now, the Vita is quite the strong little machine. With its 512MB RAM, and 2 GHz of quad-core processing power, it's hard not to like this technical beast from a hardware perspective. The GPU is similar to what you would find in popular devices such as Samsung's Galaxy S3, however the truth is it can still be ousted by some other slightly newer mobiles like Apple's fourth generation iPad tablet. Regardless, in terms of the machine itself, Sony fulfilled its promise to give us console gaming on the go.

PSP-PSVita

Now we'll take a look at the original PSP. Yes it launched nearly a decade ago, so it has an excuse, but these numbers will appear pretty laughable. With it's 333MHz processor and 64MB RAM at most, this sounds a lot like what my Windows 98 computer was hauling back in its prime. The GPU was quite strong for its day too. Even taking time lapse into consideration, I would still say the Vita has been a more impressive hardware feet for its time. The PSP played games that looked a little worse than the PS2, and the Vita can actually play those exact same games for PS3 with cross-play. The PS Vita in my mind did better with what its got.

Winner: PS Vita

Next we'll see which system has better games

Obviously the PSP, since it's already hackable, and at least it has GAMES.

I really didnt ps vita hacked fully atleast until like a year or so cuz if its hacked from the beginnin then jus like psp, game developers would fine no use makin a game for a console thats only goin to sell for atleast a week before people start downloadin them in torrent

theres nothin wrong in hackin the emulator but dont hack the ps vita self unless u want another failin console on the market

You missed out the main difference, the one that makes the vita unbuyable for me, storage, the PSP now takes micro SD cards (with a cheap adapter) up to 64gb. The Vita only has 32gb cards available and those are far too expensive. Add no TV out or USB host and the Vita is dead as far as I'm concerned.

i think if you're gonna go to such lengths to make a machine completely unhackable like Sony have with the Vita, then you need to ensure that nearly every game released for it is class. COD could have been so good considering the Vita's specs but what a let down. obviously that may be down to the developers rushing it out...who knows. come on vita lets have some top notch game then peeps wont mind paying

The Vita OS looks way to kiddy with its round icons (what an ugly design!) and with its *cough* background music. The PSP XMB OS is mature. It is simple, clear to understand and it just works. Such a shame there are no apps for the PSP like youtube, facebook, twitter, and weather. That is the only bad thing about it's os.

sure, the only 'bad' thing about a goddamn handheld GAMING DEVICE is that it can't use stupid shit that you have PHONES and COMPUTERS for. it's bad enough that the consoles have resorted to using that shit, stop trying to ruin good gaming systems with stupid.

soo u say that the one who has more games is the winner.? it's like u said that the gameboy is better than the ps vita. many people r saying that the psp is better.. they're saying that cuz they can't afford the fkin vita

In a way you could actually say the gameboy is better than the Vita, in terms of what the consoles set out to do. The gameboy has thousands upon thousands of enjoyable games and gave an experience you couldnt really get elsewhere. The Vita has, at the current rate, fuck all good games, and could easily be outclassed by an iPhone in terms of games and graphics. Even at that point during the Gameboy's lifespan, it was doing a fuckload better than the Vita

sure ds dominated the psp in sales, but ask yourself this, how fast has the ds sales dropped since the launch of the 3ds, yet the psp continues at a steady pace.

end of the day, a system that sells fast isnt the winner in my eyes, it sells fast because its nintendo and its the cheapest system.

and you can clearly see why nintendo are the cheapest system, if your to actually compare their systems to its competition.... sorry but nintendo systems are too far behind for my liking.

when i buy a system, i want something that can last more than 5 years, something that can improve over the years, not something thats out of date within a year and left behind while the other systems keep improving.

PS VIta is Technically tons better then psp BUT The PRICE IS OUTRAGEOUS !

I can buy a ps3 at the same price of a small freaking handheld ! and plus i only brought psp because it was considerably good with its library and the cost was affordable

Currently no way am i even thinking of buying that

I'm not Rich sorry :( i've got my psp and some good games to play

I have bills to pay you know ?

PSP is far superior in terms of hackability and game library. Until big name devs start developing hit titles that aren't mediocre for the Vita, it is nothing more than a glorified paperweight, far as I'm concerned.

As long as PS Vita will lock acess to compatible PSP and PSX games, homebrew apps and games, emulators etc. and have such a tiny amount of PS Vita games available - PSP wins.

ive looked at buying a ps vita, but it would sit there on my desk untill a real CFW was released, emulators and 3rd party apps, i cant see this happerning for a while so it would just be a dust collector!

went and bought a psp 3003 and a 32gb pro duo card for £100 + shipping.. cheaper then the core vita console by over half!

Obviously the Vita is technologically superior to the PSP. Of course the PSP is more easily hackable. PSP has a bigger game library, but the games feel terribly dated. PSP has limited to no functionality with today's social media sites.

There is a lot to weigh out, but I say that the Vita has just begun it's lifespan. All in all Vita wins.

battery life on vita is piss poor as well. at least psp can be upgraded. i strongly consider the psp a failed system as well considering the potential it had. not sure why sony pulled so many features from the vita that made the psp so great like tv, ps3 pads and xmb. funny enough though i do play my vita pretty equally compared to my psp and i only have 3 games for it. cross play for sfxt was pretty stupid too so i barely see any point in this console. id have rather just seen ssf4ae on psp all ugly than sfxt on vita.
